Kristian Dahlgaard works extensively with the sculpture’s weight and the absence of mass. Dahlgaard’s works are meticulously engineered. First, they materialize as cardboard models and later as hundreds of bronze parts. The pieces of this three-dimensional puzzle are arranged and welded together, one by one. Oftentimes, for example a bronze sculpture is cast from a plaster original, but here it is carefully built up according to the model.
It is craftmanship through and through, and the seemingly effortless twisting and turning does not arise as spontaneously as it may seem. A work can easily consist of over a thousand individual components that all individually capture the light. Through the consistent replica of form, Kristian Dahlgaard reaches a reflective grace similar to running water or a flames movement and sound in a fire.
