The New Carlsberg Foundation acquires news works by Trine Søndergaard
Martin Asbæk Gallery is pleased to announce that the New Carlsberg Foundation in Denmark has aquired three works to their collection by Trine Søndergaard. Both works were presented at the solo exhibition Nearer the Time from 11 January to 16 February, 2019.
The first work are from the new Callus series. Callus is Latin for ‘hard skin’ and a term for the protective scar tissue formed by trees when they are wounded –and in Trine Søndergaard’s series we see a number of large photographs of damaged tree roots lying exposed or in the healing process.
The two other works, Aegis #2 and Aegis #3, are from a series of silent portraits of a young female figure. She only partially shows her face, just enough to make us curious, but her hands protect – aegis is Latin for protection – and screen her from the surrounding world and an exchange of gazes with the viewer is prevented. The series consists of four portraits in total.
